2005 Logan Challenge – Special Stage 7
Well it was certainly duck season rather than rabbit season out at Black Duck Valley, but the wet weather didn’t dampen anyone’s enthusiasm. A good crowd showed up for the challenge despite the previous days downpour (which we needed desperately anyhow).
I was teamed up with Rod and Mandy on SS7 Bridge Building. The task was pretty simple: build a bridge over a “river” with the equipment provided and complete the entire course in the 30 minute time limit. No planks here, just logs.
And terra firma was far from firm in some places, and quite vertical in others. The picture of the mud pit doesn’t show it very well, be deep inside was a mixture of hard and soft; large boulders and mud like soft serve.
Most teams completed the stage in time, with one finishing in just under 10 minutes. Needless to say these guys had planned their bridge design before starting the actual course and had no difficulties getting past the other hurdles. A number of teams were going the extra mile for a safe bridge, but spent too much time trying to over engineer a simple bridge which cost them dearly time wise.
However, not everyone had such an easy ride. A GQ Patro decided that going up over the embankment on its journey down the hill was a better way to go. The rollover looks worse than it really was.
But it was worth the effort, and resulting in being awarded the perpetual “go hard” award for being crowd pleaser, and for getting back on the horse and going again.
The weather slowly deteriorated as evening approached. Only one team took part in the night event, and given the wet and sloppy conditions not many took part the next day either.
But this event wasn’t as nearly as much fun as watching some of the two wheelers attempt to get off the property. Even some of the larger vehicles had problems in the slippery conditions
Any way you look at it, the weekend was a success. Here are the final results. Well done to Simon, Julie, and everyone else involved in hosting an excellent weekends fun in the dirt.
Thanks to Mandy for the majority of the pictures.
